Risks & side effects
Main risks & side effects
- Composite resin is less durable than ceramic restorations and is more prone to chipping, staining, and wear
- Future polishing, repair, or replacement of the composite is likely over time
- Colour mismatch may develop as the surrounding natural tooth shade shifts
- Trauma can cause delayed pulpitis or nerve injury; root canal treatment may become necessary in the future
- Regular night guard use is recommended to protect the restoration from grinding and clenching forces
- If the fractured area is large or unstable, a crown rather than direct composite may be required
