- Sensitivity after preparation, especially to hot and cold (usually temporary)
- Irreversible removal of a small amount of enamel is required
- Risk of chipping, cracking or detachment over time, especially without consistent night guard use
- Colour and shape cannot be changed after bonding
- Rarely, if the underlying tooth is compromised, a crown or root canal may become necessary
- The night guard must be worn regularly to protect the restorations
